Equipment Identity Register (EIR)

TITAN.IUM PRODUCT

Equipment Identity Register Overview

The Equipment Identity Register (EIR) is a database service helping to prevent the use of stolen or faulty handsets / User Equipment (UE) in the operator’s network.

The EIR is also part of the Subscriber Data Management (SDM) framework allowing to use SOAP provisioning interface. It supports the delivery of UE status notifications to an external HTTP server, using RESTful.

The EIR can be deployed to an existing SS7 and/or Diameter signaling network. The system supports both TCP and SCTP transport.

EIR Business Benefits

  • Instant status delivery of all end user equipment
  • IMEI checks based on black, gray, and white-listing screening policies
  • Multi-Protocol support of all Diameter and MAP interfaces
  • Operator-defined service chaining with the check of IMSI range status, IMSI status, IMEI status, TAC status and IMSI-IMEI pinning

The Titan.ium EIR Solution

The CS/PS/EPS networks deploy the Equipment Identity Register (EIR) to determine the type and status of the user equipment (UE) to prevent the use of stolen handsets.

In CS networks, the Visitor Location Registers (VLR) query the EIR. In the PS system the Serving GPRS Support Nodes (SGSN) query the EIR. These queries use the MAP signaling protocol.

In LTE-EPC networks, the Mobility Management Entities (MME) and S4-SGSN query the EIR. These queries use the Diameter signaling protocol.

To increase the user’s security and protect them against the misuse of handsets and SIM cards, the EIR delivers the following market-leading capabilities:

  • 3GPP standards-defined registry
  • Operator-defined services
  • UE status notifications
  • UE status check emulation
